Morton Consulting is in the process of reviewing candidates for a Database Architect position in Arlington,Va.  This position is responsible for design and development of frameworks, data models, and processes in the areas of big data and advanced analytics, reporting to the Chief Scientist.  He or she will serve as a player/coach for a small team of internal developers and help the team collect requirements and demonstrate new capabilities to client’s partners in the Intelligence Community.

Responsibilities:

  • Help design and develop next generation, cross-functional, analytic frameworks, data models, and processes based on structured and unstructured data (text, audio, video, streams, etc.).
  • Work with a combination of internal and external subject matter experts, architects, and developers.
  • Manage the development team and maintain schedules.
  • Leverage client’s portfolio company products and technology to design compelling proof-of-concept systems.
  • Learn and apply new technologies as the portfolio evolves.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in development of Web-scale Software and Hardware based on combinations of open source and proprietary products and technologies:  Hadoop, HBASE, MapReduce, MongoDB, NoSQL, Python, R. etc.
  • Java and Ruby on Rails is desired; C++ a plus
  • MySQL or Oracle, Talend, Pentaho PDI, or other ETL tool experience is beneficial.
  • Visual analytics, retail analytics, predictive analytics, information retrieval, recommender system, or data mining software architecture experience is particularly relevant.
  • Knowledge of the broader IT landscape including distributed systems management, social networking, and information security.
  • The ability to analyze complex problems and provide concise summaries along with recommendations.
  • Startup or experience and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • 5-7 years as a senior technical lead with management experience.
  • A minimum of a B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; prefer candidates with active top secret clearance.
