Morton Consulting is seeking a SQL Server DBA who will work closely with our customer’s development teams while supporting the enterprise databases for multiple business units. This is a direct hire position in Norfolk, Virginia where we are looking for someone who has outstanding communications skills and someone who is well-versed in SQL Server 2005 and 2008 including performance tuning, backup and recovery, log shipping, and T-SQL.
Responsibilities:
- The administration and maintenance of Enterprise level SQL Server 2005 and 2008 database systems supporting 3 websites and CRM tools business units in an environment requiring 24 X 7 up time
- The management and administration of 30+ TB of data in a NetApp/EMC SAN environment in two hosting facilities
- Excellent internal customer service and decision-making ability in the support of Database Operations for four business
- Maintaining and developing database monitoring, a backup and recovery strategy, and a disaster recovery strategy
- Performing basic project management for database level tasks with development teams and the hosting division
- Performing basic MySQL database administration to a pair of smaller applications
- Utilizing analytical reasoning abilities and collaboration efforts in troubleshooting issues with the various development teams
Requirements:
- 3 years’ experience in SQL Server database administration in a production environment with 24 X 7 up time requirements
- Excellent communicator and team player
- Proficient with monitoring tools both within SQL Server and 3rd party such as LiteSpeed and RedGate
- Experience with databases hosted on SANs
- Experience in managing large quantities of data on SANs across production and disaster recovery site
- Microsoft certifications a plus
- Provide after-hours on call support
