Morton Consulting is in the process of interviewing candidates in consideration for a Software Test Analyst opening with one of our customers in Richmond, Virginia.  We are looking for a candidate who has between 7 and 10 years of total experience focused in Software Quality Assurance as a Tester or Test Manger.  This project is for a User Interface Modernization where a Commonwealth of Virginia Unemployment Insurance system will be updated and re-written.

Responsibilities:

  • Mentor the testing team in best practices for testing, participate in, and train the test team(s) on the development of complete test cases and test scenarios.
  • Participate in the User Acceptance Testing exercises for each release of the software (3 major releases anticipated).
  • Be Responsible for ensuring all test cases are valid and accurate, providing feedback on test status, and ensuring the Project Manager is kept up to date regarding any issues related to testing. The requirement is confined to User Acceptance testing. Unit, functional, integration, and system testing are being performed by the developers.
  • Contribute input to the development of test plans. Also writes, implements, and reports status for system test cases for testing.
  • Analyze test cases and provides regular progress reports.
  • Participate in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing and certification of software.
  • Evaluate and test new or modified software programs and software development procedures used to verify that programs function according to user requirements and conform to establishment guidelines.
  • Write, revises, and verifies quality standards and test procedures for program design and product evaluation to attain quality of software economically and efficiently.
  • Review new or modified program, including documentation, use cases, story boards, and flow charts, to determine if program will perform according to user request and conform to guidelines.
  • Recommend program improvements or corrections to programmers. Review computer operating log to identify program processing errors. Enters instructions into computer to test program for validity of results, accuracy, reliability, and conformance to establishment standards.
  • Observe computer monitor screen during program test to detect error codes or interruption of program. Identifies differences between establishment standards and user applications and suggests modifications to conform to standards.
  • Assist user in setting up tests to locate and correct program operating error following installation of program.
  • Conducts compatibility tests with vendor-provided programs.
  • Record program defects and document status of defects after re-test.
  • Write documentation to describe program evaluation, testing, and correction. May evaluate proposed software or software enhancement for feasibility.
  • May develop utility program to test, track, and verify defects in software program.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience developing and implementing test plans for a project of high complexity
  • 2 years of experience with HP Quick Test Pro or equivalent
  • 5 to 7 years of experience as a software test manager or software tester
  • UAT experience on a software project valued in excess of $5M
  • Certified Software Test Professional Certification
  • Testing software to meet Federal or State administrative and technical regulations
